To celebrate my 35th year on earth I&#8217;ve decided to highlight some of the other significant historical events that occured on this date (courtesy of Wikipedia).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1775 &#8211; American Revolutionary War: The Battle of Lexington and Concord \u2013 British General Thomas Gage attempts to confiscate American colonists&#8217; firearms. Captain John Parker orders his band of minutemen to not fire unless fired upon. Random shots rang out among the British soldiers. The minutemen promptly fired back. This was the &#8220;shot heard round the world.&#8221; The British are driven back to Boston, Massachusetts, thus beginning the American Revolutionary War.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"World War II\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/World_War_II\">World War II<\/a>: In <a title=\"Poland\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Poland\">Poland<\/a>, <a title=\"Germany\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Germany\">German<\/a> troops enter the <a title=\"Warsaw ghetto\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Warsaw_ghetto\">Warsaw ghetto<\/a> to round up the remaining <a title=\"Jew\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jew\">Jews<\/a>, beginning the <a title=\"Warsaw Ghetto Uprising\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Warsaw_Ghetto_Uprising\">Warsaw Ghetto Uprising<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The <a title=\"Bay of Pigs\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bay_of_Pigs\">Bay of Pigs<\/a> invasion of <a title=\"Cuba\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cuba\">Cuba<\/a> ends in failure.<\/li>\n<li>The 50-day siege of the <a title=\"Branch Davidian\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Branch_Davidian\">Branch Davidian<\/a> building outside <a title=\"Waco, Texas\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Waco%2C_Texas\">Waco, Texas<\/a>, <a title=\"United States\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States\">USA<\/a>, ends when a fire breaks out. Eighty-one people die.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Oklahoma City bombing\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oklahoma_City_bombing\">Oklahoma City bombing<\/a>: The <a title=\"Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alfred_P._Murrah_Federal_Building\">Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building<\/a> in <a title=\"Oklahoma City, Oklahoma\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oklahoma_City%2C_Oklahoma\">Oklahoma City<\/a>, <a title=\"Oklahoma\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oklahoma\">Oklahoma<\/a>, <a title=\"United States\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States\">USA<\/a>, is bombed, killing 168.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None of this is as important as the fact that on this day in 1971 I was born on <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/dela.state.va.us\/dela\/MemBios.nsf\/cff68439169bde2385256c23006d3f88\/c85eb04061bf21a785256db2006683b7?OpenDocument\">my grandfather&#8217;s<\/a> <\/strong>birthday.\u00a0 He would have been 100 today.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>That&#8217;s how long I&#8217;ve been around as of 7am this morning.
