The Independent validated my perception. Religious people are motivated by empathy and emotions while agnostics are driven by analytic, rational thought.

This is a fantastic article that lays it all out. Religious people are often emotionally frail, believing any decent or moral act is instilled by some higher power. Many devout worshipers find human nature to be inherently bad, affirming the dogma that staunch believers may be no more than psychopaths on leashes. It explains how Trump can ignore any facts as long as he’s appealing to weak emotions. Among these delicate emotions is fear. It seems the more religious someone is, the easier they scare. Now studies are revealing all these observations to be true. Religion is byproduct of emotional weakness leading to a lack or rejection of analytic thought.  Now more studies have shown the more religious someone is, the lower their decision making capability.  In an emergency situation the last people I would want around me is a Southern Baptist congregation.  All panic and prayer, no analysis or action is the difference between accepting fate and creating it.
