Richard, a General Manager, was leaving work in Cary one night and was shot by a robber in the stomach. He went on workman’s comp and as soon as the benefits expired the Honey Baked Ham Company fired him.

Spread the word, no Honey Baked Hams this Thanksgiving or Christmas. These Corpratist Ass Clowns put revenue above human welfare and their employees. The man took a bullet for them and their still more concerned about the effect his absence has on their bottom line than his family. Plus, they lied to him. The company promised in e-mails to keep him and his family “whole financially.” Well, at least until it costs them any money.
Never cared much for their over-priced hams anyway.

I was hired as a store manager for HOLIDAY. I worked 100 hour weeks during the HOLIDAY season. This company should be looked at for employee abuse and abuse of labor laws. Production areas are very dangerous and the lack of training is abominable. Hurry before the next manager gets shot!
This company has already been found guilty of fraud. The use the catchwords ‘we are a family friendly company’ but they are really corporate pigs. SPREAD THE WORD THESE GUYS ARE SWINE! No caring person should buy their products. Greed runs their company!
It looks like the bad press made someone at Honey Baked Headquarters sit down and use their brain for a minute. They’re going to pay for his Cobra coverage. This may not make Richard “whole financially” but it’s a start.
Why do bean counting Ass Hats need to be hit in the head with the morality combat glove before realizing the right thing to do. Ethics do not come from the bottom line of a spreadsheet. Go watch the new release of A Christmas Carol this winter and let it sink in.
I am the person you are referencing. I am recovering from my third surgery as we speak. From the moment that this incident ocurred it has been how far, how fast, how quickly can we run away from our employee who was hurt in a cost savings preventable accident that would make us look real bad incident. Do you really think my wife and I wanted to go to the news if they were doing the right thing?of course not. There are those in the field who are great people, and then there are the corporate bean counters who have shown my wife and I absolutely no concern.(well until now). There well wishes have been followed up with PR statements from Edelman+Co. I wish my wife, son and I had the resources for a full time PR, and full time legal staff!!
Has anyone heard anything about this lately? I was searching the internet for HoneyBaked blogs because of a horrible experience I had this Christmas and found this one. It intrigued me so I looked into it. I am a trial lawyer and from the information I have looked into (including the company’s B*** S*** response) it seems like he has a decent size case against the company. There are some blogs out there that say that there was armed security at all the other Honey Baked stores in the area but not his. I am sure he is getting workers comp benefits but how much more liable can a company be by giving all other stores armed security and not giving his any security at all? We are giving billions to Haiti right now but this guy might as well had the president of his company shoot him. Maybe if we get this back going again the company will actually take care of him….PS..Firing him for the reason they said is “BS” too. Do you think they really care about him?
